What We Build
Population to be served:
The Sanford Area Habitat for Humanity has housed 34 families in Lee County. A mother and her two elementary school age boys will be the 35th family and will be in their new home within the next few months. Due to limited funding we are never able to meet all of the needs of our community. Most people would prefer to own their homes, but financially many families are unable to pay the high mortgage payments. Habitat for Humanity gives these families an opportunity to buy a home and make interest free payments that lowers the house payment to a more manageable sum. Without this help, these families would continue to pay rent and many times live in less than desirable conditions. The population that the Sanford Area Habitat for Humanity serves is those that have an excellent record of continued employment, but fails to meet the income bracket that permits them to buy a $55,000.00 to $65,000.00 home without some financial assistance.
The Sanford Area Habitat for Humanity builds homes in Lee County with volunteer labor purchasing only specialized labor where and if needed. We accept donations from many of the area businesses, individuals, and churches. These can be monetary donations as well as building materials.
